A 3 Month old pup!! Wnat to get him neutered but vet said 4 months Why?

I have a 3 month old American Pitbull Terrier that just figured out that he has a . But I want to get him fixed now but the vet said he has to be 4 months!! I was just wondering why He has to be 4 months and is it normal at his age?
